Annual MLK March

January 16 @ 8:30 am

Free

The Springfield Branch of the NAACP invites the public to join in the annual MLK March, “The Strength to Love,” honoring the life and work of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Kai Sutton, President of NAACP Springfield MO Branch states, “Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s words, spoken over fifty years ago, still ring true and are the inspiration for this year’s march, ‘I have decided to stick to love…Hate is too great a burden to bear.’”

The doors open at Mediacom Ice Park at 7:30 AM and the March will begin promptly at 8:30 AM. The March will travel over the historic Martin Luther King Jr. Bridge to the Gillioz Center for Arts and Entertainment, 325 Park Central E. Upon completion of the March, the program will begin at the Gillioz Center. Springfield Public School MLK Day essay winners will be announced during event.

This year the NAACP will be collecting new socks, gloves, and Hot Hands at the Ice Park and at the Gillioz. Cash donations for the purchase of these items will also be accepted.
