The Kitchen Breaks Ground New Development

July 28 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Free

The Kitchen, Inc. will break ground on a new affordable housing development Thursday, July 28 at 11am.

Below is a release from the Kitchen:

The property, located at 550 N Duke Ave, is the future site of Maplewood Villas, a 44-unit affordable housing development designed for low-income and formerly homeless seniors—especially Veterans. The project is funded by The Missouri Housing Development Commission, Bank of Missouri, and CRA Investments.

Maplewood Villas will include 44 two-bedroom, one-bathroom units for seniors 55 and older. All units will be ground-floor accessible units. 11 units will be set aside specifically to serve homeless Veterans. A portion of units will also be set aside for extremely low-income residents.

The development will include significant green space and a community building with a pavilion. The community building will offer a gathering space for residents, computer lab with internet access, and office space for community case workers and partners. The Kitchen, Inc. will provide an onsite case manager to support residents, connect residents with community resources, and organize events that promote community building.

Maplewood Villas will be a service enriched development to ensure residents are able to maintain their housing and will not return to homelessness. Service enriched developments build a sense of community among residents and can improve quality of life for older adults living on their own.

The groundbreaking is open to the public. Join The Kitchen at 550 N Duke Ave at 11am on July 28. Directions from W Chestnut Expressway: turn north on N Duke Ave. Drive 0.25 miles. The groundbreaking will be on the right. Parking available along Duke Ave and Maple St.
