Police officers were dispatched to a Great Southern Bank in downtown Springfield on Monday morning at 10:15 a.m. following a report of a robbery.

The branch is located at 321 South Ave, on the corner of Historic Walnut Street.

“The suspect pulled into the drive-thru window to make a transaction,” the Springfield Police Department said in a statement to the Daily Citizen. “The suspect got mad and went into the lobby of the bank, where he stated he threatened employees and stated he was armed, but no weapon was displayed. The bank gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of money, and the suspect left.”

The suspect has been detained amid the developing investigation.

“Officers later located the suspect’s vehicle and searched surrounding establishments,” the statement reads. “The suspect was located and taken into custody. The FBI was notified and also responded. The joint investigation is ongoing.”
