Springfield police responded to a single-vehicle crash at Grant and Meadowmere, which is near JFK Stadium, at 8:05 p.m.

A red 2007 Ford Ranger driven by Joshua Stone, 28, from Springfield, was speeding southbound on Grant from Meadowmere when he lost control and ran off the road, according to police.

Vehicle struck a utility pole, rolled over

Kyle Carlisle, 19, from Springfield, was a passenger in the cab, and both Fields and Elijah Smith, 19, from Springfield, were passengers in the bed of the truck.

The vehicle struck a utility pole, chain link fence, and tree before rolling over, ejecting Smith and Fields, according to police.

All four people in the truck were transported by EMS to the hospital. Carlisle and Stone had minor injuries. Smith was listed in critical but stable condition.

The investigation is ongoing as to the circumstances involved in the crash.

This was the 17th fatal motor vehicle crash in Springfield in 2022.
