Springfield police are investigating the city’s 18th homicide in 2023 — the third of which happened in the second full week of November.
According to a press release from the Springfield Police Department, officers responded to a disturbance involving a woman with a gun at the Price Cutter grocery store at 1260 E. St. Louis St. around 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
Prior to officers arriving on scene, the woman allegedly fired a gun at Nathan Williams, 25, from Springfield in the parking lot of the business.
When they arrived, police officers found Williams lying on the ground with a gunshot wound. Medics transported Williams to a Springfield hospital, but he died a short time later.
The woman who allegedly shot Williams has been questioned by detectives, but has not been arrested at this time.
Detectives continue to investigate the shooting and ask anyone with additional information to contact the Springfield Police Department at 417-864-1810 or make an anonymous call to Crime Stoppers at 417-869-TIPS (8477) or online at p3tips.com.
Once the investigation is completed, police say the case will be presented to the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office, who will review and decide on filing criminal charges.
