The Missouri Accountability Portal is chockablock with data about how federal coronavirus relief dollars are being spent in the Show-Me State. It’s not easy to navigate; there is no search function, but you can review or download a database with nearly 54,000 entries detailing expenditures.

These federal funds, which are sent to and distributed by the state, are in addition to relief money sent directly to individuals, businesses and government entities in Greene County.

Some local highlights:

  • BKD LLP, one of the nation’s largest accounting firms, is listed a dozen times. Headquartered in Springfield, the firm has received $2,385,518.41 through mid-March for “accounting and auditing services.”
  • Sunbelt Environmental Services, based in Springfield, has received $144,959.24 for “housekeeping and janitor services.” The company decontaminated and disinfected more than 100 locations in 2020 and 2021.
The Springfield Convention & Visitors Bureau received CARES Act funding to help pay for marketing campaigns to promote and support tourism in the Springfield area during the pandemic.   • The state gave the Springfield Convention & Visitors Bureau $1,676,297.15 for “program reimbursements” between October and December 2020. It was part of $15 million in CARES Act funding to help tourism marketing groups impacted by the pandemic. The money helped cover payroll and marketing campaigns highlighting public safety in the time of pandemic.
  • Between November 2020 and January 2021, Springfield Healthcare received $379,717.84 for various COVID-related work, including payroll, testing, and biohazard cleaning supplies.
  • Springfield Villa, a longterm care facility, got $272,370 in “assistance payments” from September 2020 and March 2021. The largest check was $219,000 to cover overtime pay, cleaning, and PPE supplies.
  • Jordan Valley Community Health received $16,000 in education assistance payments for COVID training in September 2020.
  • In December 2020, the Springfield-Greene County Library was reimbursed $60,310.48 for broadband services.
