If you have thoughts on parking downtown, the city is asking you to share them.
The City of Springfield is teaming with Walker Consultants to study downtown parking options in an effort to improve the overall parking system, according to a news release.
The review is designed to help city planners “focus on fostering a vibrant quality of place and sustaining future economic development in the downtown Springfield area,” according to the release.
Walker Consultants will examine the current public and private on- and off-street parking situation downtown, documenting how often certain options are used through different times of the day, week and year. “Additionally, the project will include a holistic review of existing parking regulations, operating policies and procedures, enforcement practices and other aspects of the parking system, resulting in recommendations aimed at improving all aspects of the public parking system,” according to the release.
Along with observations, data collection, property owner and stakeholder input, the public is invited to fill out a parking study survey online.
The release states that the results will help inform future parking improvement and downtown planning recommendations. The study area borders, according to the release, are from “roughly” National Avenue to the east and Grant Avenue to the west, and Elm Street to the south and Phelps Street to the north.
Survey responses must be filled out by March 20.
