The city of Springfield seeks people willing to serve on a variety of boards and commissions. Four openings need to be filled immediately.
The city of Springfield has more than 25 standing boards and commissions, providing hundreds of opportunities for citizens to get involved in the community. Requirements for the city’s standing boards and commissions vary.

Enhanced Enterprise Zone Board
The Enhanced Enterprise Zone oversees all four Springfield area enhanced enterprise zones. It reviews and assesses zone activities on a yearly basis and advises the Springfield City Council on zone-related matters.
Zone boundaries are drawn with input from the Missouri Department of Economic Development, and are based on areas with low income and high unemployment, the potential to create sustainable jobs in a targeted industry and the impact on the development of industry in the area.
Building Trades Examination & Certification Board
(Three openings: a commercial contractor representative, a residential contractor representative and a plumbing representative)
The Building Trades & Certification Board administers the licensing of the members of various building crafts or trades. The board makeup is designed to represent a cross-section of trade workers that includes plumbers, electrical workers, natural gas fitters and general mechanical workers.
Citizens’ Tax Oversight Committee
The CTOC reviews and monitors the collection of the 1/4-cent capital improvements sales tax revenues, the 1/8-cent transportation sales tax revenues, the 3/4-cent Police and Fire Fighters Pension Fund sales tax revenues, the hotel/motel tax revenues and the level property tax revenues. In addition, the committee may evaluate any proposed reduction or enhancement to pension benefits before presentation to the city council.
The Personnel Board advises the Springfield City Council, city manager and director of human resources concerning personnel administration.
The board makes any investigation it considers worthwhile concerning the administration of personnel in the municipal service. It also approves city employee merit system rules and hears appeals cases from disciplinary action.
