
Alfred (Al) Lee Penny, 88 of Springfield, passed away peacefully at his home, the place he loved, on September 5, 2023.
Al was the first employee hired at Hoerner Box/Stone Containers in Springfield, Missouri. At the same time as he was beginning his career, he met the love of his life, Patti Halbert, at a drive-in diner and they were married a short time later, on New Year’s Eve 1960. At Hoerner Box, he worked his way up to plant manager and retired after 32 years.
He is survived by his wife Patti, his daughter Paula Adams and fiance Keith Morris; his son John and wife Jennifer; his grandsons Stuart Stringer (Darla), Paden Stringer (Meagan); Cy Stringer (Courtney); Max Penny (Reagan); granddaughter Nicole Miller; his great-grandchildren Laightyn, Avery, Emrie, Finley, Penny, Chloe, Brett, and Saylor Stringer; Gracie, Ally, and JT Poindexter; and his sister Norma Lorenz (Fred).
Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 pm on Monday, September 11th at Wesley United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, September 12th at Wesley United Methodist Church.
Private interment will be at Maple Park Cemetery.
