Carolyn Joyce Nelson, 85 of Springfield, passed away on Saturday, February 18 following a two-year struggle with Alzheimer’s dementia.

She married David Leroy Nelson June 14, 1958. They were blessed with three children: David Randall, Sharolyn Sue and Daniel Ray. She was awarded Ministerial License with the Assemblies of God in 1997. She served with her husband in three pastorates: Laverne, Minnesota; Mound, Minnesota and Aberdeen, South Dakota. While living in Aberdeen she was employed several years as Financial Accountant at Aberdeen Interiors. She also served as Administrative Assistant for the Minnesota District Youth and Christian Education Department for 6 years while David served as District Director.

During several years she also served as Executive Committee Secretary for the Minnesota District Women’s Ministry Department. She also served as Administrative Assistant at Evangel Seminary, Kiev, Ukraine during David’s six-year tenure as President. In 2001 Carolyn was appointed as an Assemblies of God World Missions Specialized Service Missionary serving with her husband primarily in Eastern Europe for nearly 20 years.

She is survived by her husband, David; children, David Randall (Penne) of Memphis, Tennessee, Sharolyn Sue (Bill) Wenig of Swan, Iowa, Daniel Ray (Kari) of Savage, Minnesota. Grandchildren: Ashley (Brad) Davis, Lebanon, Tennessee; Daniel (Rachael) Wenig of Swan, Iowa and Erica Wenig, Reston Virginia, Ryan (Chrissie) Nelson, Jordan, Minnesota, Danielle Nelson of Edina, Minnesota. Great grandchildren; Levi, Nora, Gracie and Isaac Wenig, and Carsten Nelson.

Memorials may be designated for Assemblies of God World Missions in support of our grandson, Daniel Wenig and his wife Rachael, missionaries to India and the projects in which they are involved.

Visitation will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. with service to follow at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 25th, 2023.

Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Springfield, Missouri.
