Theodore J. Nickle (Ted), 84 of Springfield, died February 4, 2023.
He was a humorist; a caring soul; a dedicated teacher; a beloved husband, father and brother; and was once mistaken for a wizard. After working on his graduate degree at the University of Oklahoma, he taught in the mathematics department at Drury for 38 years.
He is survived by his wife, Julie; his daughters, Beth and Pam; his sister Ann Gebhardt; sisters- in-law Carol Snider (Ken), Marilyn Batson and Mary Phouthone; brothers-in-law Tony Petersen, Joe Petersen (Mary) and Bill Grier (Ellen). He will also be missed by his nieces and nephews: Eric Gebhardt (Heather); Shara Gebhardt; Christy Snider; Trisha Kline (Kevin); Paul Snider (Robin); Elizabeth Surmiak (Andrew); Chris Smith (Hannah); Kevin Petersen (Megan); Matthew Petersen; Shawn Petersen (Elliana); Victor Petersen; Lana Petersen; as well as 15 great-nephews and nieces.

A visitation will be held Thursday, February 9, 2023, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home with a memorial service to be held on Friday, February 10, 2023, at 11:00 am at the funeral home.
