“Here’s Your Sign” to laugh

Saturday, April 2

If you live in the Midwest and haven’t heard of the Blue Collar Comedy, here is your sign to attend Bill Engvall’s Farewell tour this Saturday. 

Engvall was a part of the enormously successful Blue Collar Comedy concert films, which sold over nine million units and even received a Grammy nomination. Engvall’s shtick, “Here’s Your Sign,” was undoubtedly a favorite amongst many fathers I know in the Midwest, including my own. Engvall more recently was a finalist and fan favorite on Dancing with the Stars.

He performs two shows at the historic Gillioz Theatre. The first at 6:30 p.m., the next at 8:00 p.m. 

Cold Beer for a good cause 

Saturday, April 2

Have you ever dreamed of holding a cold beer in your hand all day long? 

Organizers of the Ozarks Beerfest say your dreams can come true this Saturday. There will be 200 craft brews, as well as flavored malt beverages, seltzers and ciders at the Expo Center. In addition to the slew of brews, there will be food, contests, cornhole and live music. What makes this event that much “hoppier” is that all of the proceeds from this event benefit Big Brother’s Big Sisters of the Ozarks.

Ozarks Beerfest is at the Springfield Expo Center from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. 

Star Wars, alien earths, space music. Oh my. 

Sunday, April 3

Jedis, come one and come all to the “Star Wars” Triple Feature at the library. 

This free program is a part of a “Discover Exoplanets” event, offered in conjunction with the traveling exhibit “The Search for Alien Earths.” Feel free to invite your adventure league out to get your nerd on together. In between kicking back and watching the original “Star Wars” movies, you can check out these space-themed crafts, activities and music as you interact with the exhibit. There is also a special exhibit from NASA on display. This space voyage at the Library Station begins on Sunday at 10 a.m. 




Shannon Cay

Shannon Cay, a Kansas City transplant, is the Daily Citizen’s visual journalist, leading efforts around photo, graphics and video for the whole newsroom. Cay also manages the events calendar and obituaries. She joined the Citizen from Carbon Trace Productions, a nonprofit film studio in Springfield, where she served as executive director. Cay obtained her degree in Broadcast Journalism from Missouri State University, worked as a reporter at KTTS and KSMU in Springfield, and as the news director for Earl’s Family Broadcasting in Branson.
