Absentee voting is now open for the April 5 municipal elections in Greene County and across the state.
Five candidates are running for two seats on the board for Springfield Public Schools. There are no races this spring for Springfield City Council.
Throughout Greene County, the April ballot includes candidates and/or issues in seven cities, five school districts and one fire protection district.
In Missouri, all absentee voters must sign an affidavit under penalty of perjury attesting to their legal reason for voting by absentee ballot.
Those legal reasons include:
- Absence on Election Day from the jurisdiction of the election authority in which the voter is registered to vote
- Incapacity or confinement due to illness or physical disability, including a person who is primarily responsible for the physical care of a person who is incapacitated or confined due to illness or disability
- Religious belief or practice
- Employment as an election authority, as a member of an election authority, or by an election authority at a location other than such voter’s polling place
- Incarceration, provided all qualifications for voting are retained
- Certified participation in the address confidentiality program
Absentee ballots may be cast in the clerk’s office at the Greene County Archives/Elections Center, 1126 N Boonville Ave., between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, until the day before the election.
Homebound or out-of-town voters may request an absentee ballot by mail.
More information on elections and absentee voting can be found on the election website of Greene County Clerk Shane Schoeller. The deadline to register to vote prior to any given election is 28 days. For the upcoming election, that deadline is March 9.
