A person is dead after a two-vehicle crash near Lake Springfield on the afternoon of April 12, according to the Springfield Police Department.

Around 12:36 p.m., a vehicle left the road and hit a tree near the intersection of Crenshaw Road and Ridgecrest Street, southwest of Lake Springfield, Police Spokesperson Cris Swaters said in a text message to the Springfield Daily Citizen. The single-occupant vehicle caught fire and the driver died.

A second vehicle was driving past and was hit by debris, Swaters said. There were no reported injuries in the second vehicle.

SPD will release more information once the next of kin of the deceased has been notified, Swaters said.
