City Utilities is asking all electric and natural gas customers to take voluntary conservation steps due to the extreme winter weather conditions.

According to a CU news release, extreme temperatures are impacting the delivery of natural gas along the pipeline including gas delivery to City Utilities and may create supply issues through Tuesday, due to natural gas supply cuts.

According to the National Weather Service, Springfield and the Ozarks are under a wind chill advisory until noon Tuesday, with wind chills as low as 20 degrees below zero.

During this time, CU is asking customers to voluntarily do the following.

  • Limit the use of non-essential appliances and electronics.
  • Turn down thermostats and bundle up in warm clothing.
  • Minimize the use of heating and lighting in unoccupied rooms.
  • Postpone the use of major energy-consuming activities.
