Springfield Police have identified the victim who died early Sunday morning after being shot at a carpet business at 318 N. Kansas Expressway.

According to a release, officers responded at 3:24 a.m. Sunday morning to a report of a person shot at Thrifty Carpets. Officers found two male victims with gunshot wounds. 

The first victim was treated at the scene with non-life-threatening injuries. 

The second victim, Larry McCoo, 35, from Springfield, was transported to a local hospital where he later died. McCoo’s family has been notified. 

A suspect has not been identified at this time. 

As of Sunday afternoon, a pile of shattered glass remained by the business’ front door. Someone had left a bouquet of roses nearby.

Detectives know that multiple people were present during this incident, according to the release.  They encourage anyone with information to contact the Springfield Police Department at 417-864-1810 or make an anonymous call to Crime Stoppers at 417-869-TIPS (8477) or online at p3tips.com.  

This is Springfield’s 12th homicide investigation in 2023.
